The Temple
The Alachua Hare Krishna Temple is a spiritual community of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), Founder-Acharya His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
Situated on a tranquil, rural 127-acre property in Alachua, Florida, 20 minutes north of Gainesville, you’ll find cow pastures, gardens, ponds, forested groves, a guest house, a school, and the Eco Teaching Farm.
This temple property was purchased in 1977 and has been a sanctuary for simple living and spiritual growth ever since. Sri Sri Gaura Nitai were first installed in 1974 in Gainesville but, when that property needed to be sold, were established here in Alachua in 1981 in the old temple building. The new temple was built in 1995. Sri Sri Radha Shyamasundara were installed and worship established in 2000 and Sri Sri Krishna Balarama were installed in 2010.
Our temple hosts a daily worship program running from 4:30 am through 9:00 pm. Our Sunday program includes arati, kirtan, and a free vegetarian meal serving 500-750 attendees. On festival days, our attendance swells to the thousands. On a quiet weekday you can enjoy the tranquility of the farm landscape, the temple sanctuary, the gardens and the cows.
